Very Large Contemporary Sumi-e Brush with Ceramic Ferrule and Mixed Horsehair
This brush was made by Elizabeth. It has a black bamboo handle and very high-quality mixed horsehair bristle. The handle has an imperial dragon craved into it. The dragon carving runs from the top to the bottom of the brush handle. The ferrule is stoneware, with a deep red glaze. The mixed horsehair is somewhat course and has great flex/spring, with good stiffness and a very thick head of hair/bristles 10" long X 8" inches wide.
This brush has a super large bristle and will make expressive, bold, big marks. It is a brush made to make large gestural work/mark-making.
The handle is 20 inches in length and has been conditioned with beeswax paste. The handle also has a leather hanging strap and the top is embellished with a natural stone, which is from a mountainous area in Taiwan.
I considered my handmade brushes to be a work of art. That being said, they are made to be used and as such will work very well. This brush will make very large expressive marks and will hold a lot of mediums.
