Mixed Horsehair Sumi-e Brush with Ceramic Ferrule & Bamboo Handle

Handmade brush for fluid, expressive ink work, and water-based media

This Sumi-e style brush features a traditional slightly tapered head made from a premium mix of horsehair. The bristles offer just the right balance of firmness and flexibility, making this a great all-around brush for gestural strokes, washes, and controlled mark-making.

The ferrule is hand-thrown ceramic with a warm, earthy tone that pairs beautifully with the fire-treated bamboo handle. I don’t seal my bamboo—what you see is the result of heat-drawn resin that creates a smooth, natural finish.  There is also a leather loop at the end of the handle for hanging or display.
