Large Coarse Dark Auburn Horsehair Sumi-e Paint Brush With Stoneware Ferrule

I made this brush with a short stocky handle because I wanted it to work well when painting large and using an easel if desired! The brush bristle head is nice and big, it is also super coarse hair that will create a lot of varied and interesting marks.

This brush was made with bamboo and my high-quality dark auburn horsehair. It also has a stoneware ceramic ferrule. The super-coarse dark auburn horsehair is very stiff, has great flex, strong spring and will make a wide variety of marks, from wide/dynamic to very fine.

The brush has:

• A leather hanging strap
• The ferrule is stoneware 

Traditional Sumi-e style bristle head:

• The dark auburn horsehair is 8"X6" in length/width
• The bamboo handle is 11" in length including the ferrule
• It is surprisingly light considering the size and weighs 1.25 lbs.

My brushes are made to create a vast array of marks. When I make a brush I think about all aspects of the tool: how it looks, how it feels in the hand and how it paints - to ensure that the end product is a true "fine art tool".
