Coarse White Horsehair Sumi-e Paint Brush With Ceramic Ferrule SC2
This brush was made with my high-quality coarse white coarse tail horsehair. The brush ferrule is ceramic. The super-coarse auburn horsehair is very stiff, has great flex, strong spring, and will make a wide variety of marks, from wide/dynamic to very fine. The tips are also natural, and uncut. The brush has a wormwood bead on the leather hanging strap.
The brush has:
- A leather hanging strap with wormwood bead
- The ferrule is ceramic
- The handle is a repurposed quill bobbin wood that has a brass wrap
Traditional Sumi-e style bristle head:
- The white horsehair is 5"
- The bamboo handle is 13.5" in length
My brushes are made to create a vast array of marks. When I make a brush I think about all aspects of the tool: how it looks, how it feels in the hand, and how it paints - to ensure that the end product is a true "fine art tool".

I wanted a bigger brush that would hold a lot of paint or ink and make interesting marks from delicate to bold. This one does! The spindle handle feels good in the hand. The metal detailing near the ferrule and the bit of carved wormwood near the leather strap make this brush truly unique and just plain beautiful!
