This unique and beautiful Sumi-e brush was made with bamboo root and dark auburn horsehair. The bamboo handle has a ceramic ferrule. The horsehair is a wiry, course, has great flex, strong spring and will make a wide variety of marks. The horsehair has been cut into a short, round shape. This bristle can handle a wide variety of media, including thicker paints. It can create great texture and lines because the bristle is stiff.
The brush has:
- A leather hanging strap
- The ferrule is ceramic
Bristlehead:
- The Dark Auburn Horsehair is 3.5" in length
- The Handle is 9.5" in length
My brushes are made to create a vast array of marks. When I make a brush I think about all aspects of the tool: how it looks, how it feels in the hand and how it paints - to ensure that the end product is a true "fine art tool".
