Dark Auburn Horsehair Sumi-e Paint Brush

This unique and beautiful Sumi-e paint brush was made with bamboo root and dark auburn horsehair. The bamboo handle has a ceramic ferrule with a sgraffito design carved into it. The horsehair is a wiry, course, has great flex, strong spring and will make a wide variety of marks. The horsehair has been cut into a blunt slant shape. This shape can handle a wide variety of media, including thicker paints. It can create great texture and lines because the bristle is stiff.

The brush has:

• A leather hanging strap with natural seed bead
• The ferrule is ceramic and has a sgraffito koi design

Bristlehead:

• The Dark Auburn Horsehair is 1.75" in length
• The Handle is 9" in length

My brushes are made to create a vast array of marks. When I make a brush I think about all aspects of the tool: how it looks, how it feels in the hand and how it paints - to ensure that the end product is a true "fine art tool".
