Handmade Sumi-e Paint Brush With 4.5" White Horsehair Bristles, on a 6.25" Black Bamboo Handle

This brush has a black bamboo handle and white horsehair bristles. The bamboo is from the root of the plant. It has a lot of natural character, the ferrule is wood. The bristles are somewhat stiff, flexible and will make a wide variety of marks. The tip of the brush head has a rounded shape.

This brush has a been conditioned with beeswax paste and has a leather hanging strap. 

Each brush I make is different and unique. I try to bring out the voices of the materials I use, connecting them with each other in a way that makes them feel complete.

My brushes are made to create a vast array of marks. When I make a brush I think about all aspects of the tool: how it looks, how it feels in the hand and how it paints - to ensure that the end product is a true "fine art tool".
