This brush was made with black bamboo and my premium black horsehair. The brush ferrule was made using a piece of curled white birch bark. To ensure the ferrule is strong, I coated the bark with a strong, clear epoxy and it has been reinforced with bamboo. This brush was made with my very best horsehair. It is super soft, has pointed tips, beautiful flex, and spring. The handle is black bamboo which has been highly polished and I also added a light pattern to it.

The brush has:

  • A leather hanging strap and natural see embellishment
  • The ferrule is made with white birch bark bark

Traditional Sumi-e style bristle head:

  • The dark auburn horsehair is 3.35"X3" in length/width
  • The bamboo handle is 11" in length

My brushes are made to create a vast array of marks. When I make a brush I think about all aspects of the tool: how it looks, how it feels in the hand and how it paints - to ensure that the end product is a true "fine art tool".
