Kyoto Journal Interview

Connecting to Taiwan Through The Kyoto Journal

Recently, I was featured in The Kyoto Journal’s December Issue.  If you are not familiar with The Kyoto Journal it is "a quarterly magazine based in Kyoto, Japan. Its subtitle, Perspectives from Asia, reflects its commitment to ‘local voices, from all over Asia’ and ‘ideas that illuminate cultural differences in a positive way, that promote intercultural understanding via specifics, not generalities.’ " (source Wikipedia 01/2020). The journal is a gem and provides great cultural insights from all over Asia. I encourage you to check it out further, you won't be disappointed.

Being featured in The Kyoto Journal was a true honor, as it embodies so much of what I love about Asia. The article I’m featured in is called "Connections" and shares some of my experiences & feelings about Taiwan and how those connections have influenced my work. My Contemporary Sumi-e Brushes are more than just functional tools, they are works of art that directly reflect the imprint that Asia and Taiwan have had on my life.  I am so very grateful for those experiences and hope that this shows in all that I do.

Excerpt From Article:

I miss Taipei a lot, and I am excited to be returning in Winter 2022.    I’m planning a guided nine-day tour, so if you’re interested and would like to join me, please contact me at Schowachert@gmail.com. I am limiting the group to no more than 5 participants :)

In the meantime, I will remain connected to one of my favorite places on earth through the Kyoto Journal, my art practice and brush making!

Warm regards,

E
