Horsehair Sumi-e Paintbrushes with Ceramic Ferrules MSB #1, #2 & #3

These unique and beautiful brushes were made with antique ramrod sections,  horsehair, and ceramic ferrules with a metallic glaze. The ramrod handles are over 100 years old, are soft, satiny, and have a naturally rich patina. 

White Coarse Horsehair Brush MSB #1:

This coarse white horsehair is stiffer, has great flex, strong spring, and will make a wide variety of marks. The horsehair has a traditional Asian brush shape. The brush bristle will hold a lot of media and can make very bold and dynamic marks.

This brush has:

• A leather hanging strap 
• The ferrule is ceramic
• The handle was made using a section of an antique ramrod.

Bristlehead:

• The coarse white horsehair is 3.75" in length 
• The handle is 13.75" in length

The Auburn Horsehair Brush MSB #2:

This auburn horsehair paintbrush was made with my premium auburn horsehair, which has uncut natural tips. It has a tapered, slightly rounded bristle head.

This brush has:

• A leather hanging strap 
• The ferrule is ceramic
• The handle was made using a section of an antique ramrod.

Bristlehead:

• The coarse white horsehair is 3.5" in length 
• The handle is 13" in length

The Goat Hair Mop Brush MSB #3:

This mop paintbrush was made with my premium white goat hair. It has a mop shape bristle head, that is full and large. Goats' hair is super absorbent and soft and is an ideal bristle type for this kind of brush.

This brush has:

• A leather hanging strap 
• The ferrule is ceramic
• The handle was made using a section of an antique ramrod.

Bristlehead:

• The coarse white goat hair is 3.5" in length 
• The handle is 14" in length

My brushes are made to create a vast array of marks. When I make a brush I think about all aspects of the tool: how it looks, how it feels in the hand, and how it paints - to ensure that the end product is a true "fine art tool".
