Handmade Chunky Blunt Goat Hair Sumi-e Brushes with Bamboo Handles

These brushes were made by Elizabeth. They were made with bamboo and white goat hair.

Goat hair or 羊毛, youmou is flexible, durable, yet super soft and very absorbent.  Soft brushes are a bit more challenging to master, but if used skillfully deliver very interesting, and to an extent, unpredictable lines.

The black bamboo handles are 3 inches in length and have been conditioned with beeswax paste. They each have images of bamboo carved onto them. The bristle3 heads are 2 inches in length.

I consider my brushes to be a work of art in themselves, that being said they are made to make art.
