This distinctive Sumi-e brush combines soft deer bristle with a center of skunk bristle, creating an exceptionally soft, flexible brush with beautiful movement and variation.

The combination of bristles gives this brush an impressive range. Use the full brush head for broad, sweeping strokes, expressive washes and organic textures, or bring the longer center bristles together for fine lines and more controlled mark-making. Changes in pressure, angle and moisture can produce dramatically different results from a single brush.

The bamboo handle features a distinctive burned pattern with warm amber and deep brown banding and is finished with a leather hanging loop.

Performance

The combination of deer and skunk bristles create a very soft, highly flexible brush head that responds beautifully to changes in pressure and movement.

With light pressure, the longer natural tips can produce fine, fluid lines. Apply more pressure and the brush opens across the surface, creating broad strokes, broken edges and multiple individual marks.

The varied bristle lengths allow the brush to move easily between controlled and more spontaneous mark-making, making it a versatile tool for ink and other fluid media.
