The carbon black encaustic paint (often referred to as Carbon Wax) I am offering here is made for the HOTbox/Hot Pallete to create encaustic monotypes. Carbon black paint adds richness, depth, and texture to encaustic monotypes. My carbon black encaustic paint is "drier" than other options. you can use it as is, or add clear or colored wax to make it more absorbent on the paper, etc. If you add the carbon black to the plate and cannot get strong line definition or image definition, then add a little clear or colored media to increase the wax ratio pf the carbon encasutic paint, this will help create more defined lines and images.

I also offer for sale a "Silver Carbon" encaustic paint which has strong silver metallic characteristics.

This carbon black encaustic paint is a deep black/ dark gray color.

It comes in 6 sizes:

  • .5 oz     Cube - $5.49
  • .6oz      Bar -    $6.49
  • 1 oz      Cube - $10
  • 2 oz      Puck - $18
  • 2.5 oz   Puck - $20
  • 3 oz     Cube - $24

Silver Carbon:

  • 1 oz     Cube - $6.49

Carbon black encaustic paint

Paint gives consistent rich blacks and grays with reticulation. Nice.

Its different, and better, than black encaustic paint

The mixture of this paint creates a "grippy" feel. You can create defined lines and shapes without pooling or separating that sometimes occurs with commercial encaustic paints. The cube shape allows you to make different types of marks directly with the cube which is a great way to start drawing.
