Horsehair Sumi-e Paint Brush With Ceramic Ferrule and 10" Long Bristle
Horsehair Sumi-e Paint Brush With Ceramic Ferrule and 10" Long Bristle
The brush handle was made with a beautiful natural piece of driftwood (from the Flathead Valley) and high-quality mixed color horsehair. The brush ferrule is ceramic. The horsehair is soft, has great flex, strong spring, and will make a wide variety of marks, from wide/dynamic to very fine.
The bristle of this brush is 10" in length and can make wide sweeping marks. The bristle can also be manipulated (the shape of the bristle head) to influence the mark it will make. The head has been shaped with slightly rounded edges, which help if move with less friction across the painting surface.
The brush has:
- A leather hanging strap
- The ferrule is ceramic (stoneware)
Traditional Sumi-e style bristle head:
- The horsehair is 10" in length/width
- The driftwood handle is 8" in length
My brushes are made to create a vast array of marks. When I make a brush I think about all aspects of the tool: how it looks, how it feels in the hand, and how it paints - to ensure that the end product is a true "fine art tool".
